MP VISIT

MP VISITS CRAVEN VOLUNTEER CENTRE
The staff and some volunteers and committee members
were pleased to welcome Skipton & Ripon MP, Julian
Smith, to the Volunteer Centre office on Friday 18th November
2011. Julian learned about the work of the Centre and
tried his hand at searching for volunteering opportunities
on the VC’s database. He commented ‘Craven
has a vibrant voluntary sector and the Volunteer Centre
is a key part of it. Volunteering not only provides vital
help for charities and organisations, it can also provide
those who volunteer with key skills to help them in their
work careers in the long term.
I enjoyed meeting with those involved with the Centre
and hope that anyone thinking of volunteering will make
use of their excellent service.
’Shop Online and Raise Money!
Have you heard about easyfundraising yet? It’s the
easiest way to help raise money for Volunteer Centre Craven!
If you already shop online with retailers such as Amazon,
M&S, Argos, John Lewis, Comet, Vodafone, eBay, Boden
and Play.com, then we need you to sign up for free to raise
money while you shop!
So how does it work?
You shop directly with the retailer as you would normally,
but if you sign up to http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/volunteercentrecraven
for free and use the links on the easyfundraising site to
take you to the retailer, then a percentage of whatever
you spend comes directly to us at no extra cost to yourself.
How much can you raise?
Spend £100 with M&S online or Amazon and you
raise £2.50 for us. £100 with WH Smith puts
£2.00 in our pocket and so on. There's over 2,000
retailers on their site, and some of the donations can be
as much as 15% of your purchase.
Save money too!
easyfundraising is FREE to use plus you'll get access to
hundreds of exclusive discounts and voucher codes, so not
only will you be helping us, you’ll be saving money
yourself.
We've raised £'s with easyfundraising already, but
we need your help to keep donations coming in. Sign up at
http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/volunteercentrecraven
and start making a difference...simply by shopping.
Thanks!

A-Z of Volunteering
A Big Lottery grant (through Awards for All) is enabling
the Volunteer Centre to compile a digital photography record
of a variety of volunteering opportunities, from A-Z. Our
volunteer, Bella, is currently helping with this –
see her story under “Experiences”.
The funding will also pay for a new DVD about Volunteering
in Craven. Our film-maker and his sound-man are currently
talking to various groups around the Craven area, in order
to capture some of their volunteers on film during the summer
months.
The whole Lottery-funded project will be finished by December
2011 and we look forward to sharing the new resources with
the general public through presentations and exhibitions.
Thank you, but ……….
We’ve all had that moment on Christmas day, when we’ve
been given a lovely present but can’t think when or
how to use it: or it’s 3 sizes too small. PLEASE don’t
throw it away! We’re always very pleased to have donations
for our tombola, so please contact us (or bring your unwanted
gifts to 26 Otley Street). Telephone us
on 01756 701648
The Volunteer Centre relies heavily
on grants and donations: and support of this kind is always
needed to sustain our services.
If you would like to sponsor our work, then please give
us a call at the Volunteer Centre: 01756 701648.
We look forward to hearing from you and THANK YOU
for your support.
