Volunteer Centre Partners Job Centre Plus
Through a scheme being piloted by the Department of Works and Pensions, Volunteer Centres across the country are working in partnership with local Job Centre offices. Clients who have been unemployed for six to twelve months are given the option of trying some work-focused volunteering to enable them to gain more skills, boost confidence and improve their CV.

Craven Volunteer Centre is pleased to be working with Skipton Job Centre Plus and, since the start of the scheme in April 2009, has successfully placed many clients with local voluntary and public sector organisations.

TIME FOR A TREAT
A Grant has been obtained from Global Radio/V Youth Volunteer Scheme to enable the Volunteer Centre to run a new short-term project which will encourage young people to experience a taste of voluntary work.
By teaming up with the students from Craven College’s Hair and Beauty Academy, they aim to offer mini ‘pamper’ sessions to some of the Centre’s older clients on their Befriending and Home From Hospital schemes.
The students will offer a session of hand massage and nail care - enabling them to practise their skills, while giving our clients a special treat.

Thank you, but ……….
We’ve all had that moment on Christmas day, when we’ve been given a lovely present but can’t think when or how to use it: or it’s 3 sizes too small. PLEASE don’t throw it away! We’re always very pleased to have donations for our tombola, so please contact us (or bring your unwanted gifts to 33, Coach Street). Telephone us on 01756 701648

Ermysted's Grammar School

Raised a fantastic £619 for us through a non-uniform day in November 2009.

“On Yer Bike - Mrs Heaton!”

In June of last year our very own Annie Heaton, Support Assistant for the Good Neighbour and Home From Hospital schemes, pulled on her padded shorts and set off on her bike from Tynemouth to Edinburgh. This is known as the Castle to Castle Bike Ride: and she did this in an effort to raise money for the Volunteer Centre.

The route saw Annie and her husband, Tim, cycle a total of 200 miles. She did this over five days.

They both raised a total of £415

The Volunteer Centre relies heavily on grants and donations: and support of this kind is always needed to sustain our services.

If you would like to sponsor our work, then please give us a call at the Volunteer Centre: 01756 701648. We look forward to hearing from you and THANK YOU for your support.

Volunteer Centre gains Quality Accreditation

We are pleased to report that Craven Volunteer Centre has once again been successful in gaining Quality Accreditation from Volunteering England. This involves submitting a portfolio of evidence every three years to prove our competence in the six core functions of a Volunteer Centre: Brokerage; Marketing; Volunteering; Good Practice Development; Developing Volunteering Opportunities; Policy Response and Campaigning and Strategic Development of Volunteering.

We would also like to thank Morrison Supermarkets who have donated £1,000 of vouchers to the Volunteer Centre to distribute to our clients on our direct service schemes. These were won by us through a competition with Absolute Radio (formerly Virgin Radio) who were distributing the vouchers to good causes for Christmas on behalf of Morrisons.

Hats off to Boutique 25/Nosh in Newmarket Street, Skipton, who kindly gave us the use of their sumptuous premises to hold our volunteers’ Christmas get-together. On top of that they provided all the refreshments for the afternoon. Our volunteers don’t often get the chance to meet each other, so this was a lovely opportunity to meet for a chat and celebrate Christmas together. To look at Boutique 25’s website go to www.boutique25.co.uk .

  • We also thank all the individuals who have made private donations in the last few months in respect of
receiving services from the Good Neighbour
scheme and the DRAG Scheme (Decoration. Repair and Gardening)

  • Craven Volunteer Centre was delighted to host a German exchange student, Evi Mader, on work experience in February. The exchange was arranged between Skipton Girls’ High School and the Gymnasium in Simbach.
