ROYAL NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR THE BLIND
Sooty Box Collector
Are you good with money? Could you collect ‘Sooty
Boxes’ for this worthy cause and accurately receipt
the income from various sites?
Good communication and organisational skills are needed,
as well as a knowledge of the local area and some experience
of fundraising. Time is flexible and you would require the
use of your own car.
DRYSTONE RADIO
Community Café Assistant
If you’d like the chance to meet new people and get
involved in the local area, why not go along and help out
at Café 106.9 FM in Cowling?
This is a community project, a local facility, a place
to do things for others. Drystone Radio provides a voice
for the community, broadcasting over the internet on a whole
range of issues affecting the lives of people in the Yorkshire
Dales.
Time is flexible and travel expenses will be refunded.
No experience is needed and any necessary training will
be given.
CRAVEN MIND
Activities Organiser
Help is required to organise and attend various types of
activities, trips or events - both for fun and for personal
development. Good organisational skills are needed , along
with an understanding of the needs of mental health sufferers
and a sense of humour!
You would need to be available on Thursday evenings and
be over 18 years of age. There is no disabled access.
CARERS’ RESOURCE
The Carers’ Resource believes that carers need care
themselves. The organisation exists to work with and for
carers, promoting awareness of their needs and providing
information, advice and support. An independent and expert
service is offered which focuses on carers of all ages.
Carer Befriender
Are you a friendly, patient person who would be able to
sit and chat, or go out for a coffee, with a carer? Carers
are people who, without pay, provide care for a friend or
relative in need. This can be an isolating and exhausting
role.
This opportunity would bring you in contact with a varied
and heart-warming group of people who would very much appreciate
someone to put them first for a change.
Time is flexible, mileage and out-of-pocket expenses would
be paid. You would need to be over 18.
Young Carers’ Buddy
Are you over 18, enthusiastic and responsible? Young carers
need a break away from their responsibilities, to have some
fun and just to be children again. Do you think you could
help them achieve this?
You are needed to accompany young carers on trips and excursions
at intervals during the year. Time is flexible, with mileage
and out-of-pocket expenses being paid.
SKIPTON CHARITIES GALA
The Skipton Charities Gala has been taking place since 1899
and this traditional main event is organised by local residents
to raise money for local charities. It is held on the second
Saturday in June and the procession leads through the centre
of Skipton to Aireville Park, where family events, a funfair
and fireworks continue into the night.
Gala Secretary
Would you be free once a month, to take minutes, type them
up and circulate them to committee members? Meetings are
held at Herriot’s Hotel, Skipton to organise the event
and a secretary is needed to help with this and any other
secretarial duties.
No qualifications are needed: just the ability to take
minutes and type them up. You would be required on Thursday
evenings. Postage and stationery costs will be refunded.
Volunteer at Oxfam Trailtrekker in the beautiful
Yorkshire Dales
4th – 6th June 2010
"Wonderful people, incredible teams, a chance to help
out: an opportunity to watch the sunrise in a beautiful
location while doing something worthwhile- what's not to
love?!"
Jenny Smith, Trailtrekker Volunteer 2009
Trailtrekker returns to Skipton in June 2010, and it promises
to be even bigger and better than the 2009 event (which
has now raised £385,000!). The challenge for participants
is the same - 100km, no stopping, no sleeping. The Trailtrekker
route is circular, starting and finishing in Skipton with
the trail cutting across the stunning landscapes of the
Yorkshire Dales.
We are looking for willing volunteers to assist in the
smooth running of the event from start to finish. You could
register walkers at the start point, be in charge of tracking
walkers into the checkpoints, take control of a checkpoint
as a co-ordinator, or help with car parking. You could also
make walkers much needed cups of tea along the route or
cheer them across the finish line – whatever you could
do to help would mean the world to us. Just register on
Oxfam’s website:
http://www.oxfam.org.uk/get_involved/fundraise/trailtrekker/volunteer_form.html
or call 0300 200 1244, and we’ll be in touch closer
to the time of the event with more information.
